ADIRONDACK RESIDENCE
ADIRONDACK RESIDENCE
2022 | KEENE, NY | 4,000 SF | NEW SINGLE-FAMILY
Positioned atop a rocky outcropping of ledge in the northern Adirondack Mountains, this family retreat was designed to host multiple generations for years to come.
The first-floor of this Private Residence hovers above the undulating ground below and is supported by an orderly grid of wide-flange columns and concrete walls. Steel frames are selectively infilled with large expanses of glass, board-formed concrete, and wood rainscreens. Exterior porches wrap the volumes and are protected by deep roof overhangs carried by cantilevered beams above, sailing outward from within.
The one-story portion of the residence features expressed steel framing and a low-slope mono-pitched roof, tipping-the-cap to the Sarasota School of Modern Architecture. The two-story portion of the residence is inspired by northern contemporary works found throughout New England and eastern Canada, and takes on a sculptural form with inverted butterfly-roof and tall slots of stacked windows running floor-to-ceiling.
Much like Leader Design Studio, this residence has roots in the south and the north, and the design vocabulary is driven by both schools of thought.
