PUNCHBOWL RESIDENCE
PUNCHBOWL RESIDENCE
2022 | ROSCOE, NY | 4,300 SF | NEW SINGLE-FAMILY
Designed as a weekend residence for a young couple from New York City, this house is immersed within a 50-acre property with a private lake, serving as a natural respite from the chaos of the City.
Modern, rectilinear forms wrapped in glass, vegetated roof gardens, and clean minimalism compose the Punchbowl House. In an effort to afford views to both Punchbowl Pond and the valley-town of Roscoe from every room in the house, the footprint meanders along a soft ridgeline on the site, affording views in multiple directions.
The public and private spaces each have their own volume, enabling the residence to 'follow the topography' while remaining connected with glassy corridors. A prominent stone fireplace anchors the public space and a sculptural steel stair pierces through the roof to access a lushly-planted rooftop terrace. The grounds and gardens are interwoven with a combination of historic fieldstone pasture walls and new board-formed concrete.
